I got the Sim 2 today (my birthday gift from Lin) and now I'm all excited. Once macro's over it'll be time to build my DYNASTY! On the home front I'm helping Gwen with the job/internship lookout and it's nice to know she's staying in Montreal. I secretly really wanted her to but I thought that NY should be where she should go. She wants to springboard on Mtl first and usually Gwen has amazing instincts so that's the way to go.

Gwen said I lie a lot today which was kind of amazing because I've never thought I did. I don't ever deliberately lie but a lot of times I glaze over things because it's too tiring to argue with people or explain things, much easier to just do things my way. Only child syndrome is what it is. As I get older I'm starting to appreciate honesty though. Honesty is the fresh breath of winter air that blows through the room of mouldy old farts chocabloc with apprehension. Because that's all a lie is about, something you say because you're too scared to speak what's on your heart. I think from now on I'm just going to say what I feel, instead of worrying I might hurt someone's feelings. It's so much more refreshing that way. :)

Went to the Bay today and I was astounded again how badly managed it is. Goods are placed haphazardly about, warehouse style, with no consideration of catching consumers' eyes, really bad decorations (their Christmas window display looked like a bad bad bad ghetto Moulin Rouge) and so many little details that make me think no thought was put into it. No wonder this company has reported losses for the third quarter in a row. I walk into the store and I can just feel it.

How can management be so stupid?? I want to head the Hudson Bay company, it has/had potential.

Came to the stunning conclusion with Gwen today that the PAP needs PR people bad. Read the news report on BBC about how Human Rights Watch reported the atrocious way we treat our foreign workes re. maids not being covered by our Employment Act. They have no rights to days off, minimum wage or even basic workplace/job treatment. They were pretty harsh, calling the maid profession in Singapore...mmm what was the phrase..."indentured slavery"? Given how impartial BBC normally is that's a pretty strong indictment. What was our beloved founding fathers' sons response?

"On their own accord, FDWs [foreign domestic workers] choose to work in Singapore because of better conditions here compared to their home and other countries. "Contrary to HRW's report, the majority of FDWs enjoy meaningful and safe employment in Singapore. An independent poll by Singapore Press Holdings in Dec 2003, revealed that over 80% of FDWs were happy to work in Singapore," the Ministry of Manpower said on its website.

Awful, awful response. As someone sympathetic to the PAP even I winced in response. It confuses me how the govt. can be so stupid. I admire LKY, I think he's a brilliant man and so are his counterparts. So what middling beaurcrat is so STUPID to come up with this crap and WHY do they let him still continue in power?? I always thought that LKY would have his finger on the pulse but he's not even close to let this shit get stirred. I guess it's just a matter of capacity, he can't go around and moniter everyone. We clearly need a school for beauracray, Tang dynasty style.
